Piping Tips

Step 1: Mixing the Base Soap

I started by adding my lye water solution to my oil mixture from Amazon. Since the fragrance oil I’m using (Candied Apple from Nature’s Garden) can discolor soap to a tan shade, I mixed in a little titanium dioxide to help keep it bright.

Next, I added my neon green mica—this is what gives our soap that perfect Grinch-green color!

I poured some of the soap into my mold but noticed my trace was too thin to support the heart embed I wanted to use. No problem—just a quick blend with the stick blender to thicken it up a bit. You want it to be thick enough to hold the embed without getting so thick that it’s hard to pour.

Once it was at the right consistency, I placed the heart embed in and poured the rest of the soap over it. The best part? This project looks super cute without any complicated swirls—just a solid, vibrant green base that makes the Grinch theme pop!

Step 2: Making the Soap Frosting

Now for the fun part—the soap frosting!

I combined coconut oil and castor oil, then added my lye water solution. I had already mixed in titanium dioxide to make the frosting bright and creamy.

Once blended, I split the batter into two portions: one for white frosting and one for red frosting.

You can really blend the heck out of this part because we want it to reach a thick, frosting-like consistency. Once both colors were ready, I filled up two piping bags—one for each color.

---

Step 3: Decorating the Soap

Time to frost!

I started with a layer of white frosting, then added two dollops of red frosting, and topped it off with one final dollop of white to mimic the Grinch’s Santa hat look.

I’ll admit—I didn’t make quite enough frosting for this batch (note to self: always make extra!), but I managed to make it work.

Then I placed the red sphere embeds on top for a festive finishing touch.

---

Step 4: The Finishing Touches

Normally, I cut my soap bars to 1¼ inches thick, but this time I switched to 1 inch. Unfortunately, I didn’t adjust the placement of the embeds before pouring, so they ended up slightly off-center when I cut the bars—but hey, they still turned out adorable!

Finally, I dusted the tops with Shimmer White mica from Brambleberry to give them a magical, frosty finish.

Step 5: The Reveal

And there you have it—our Grinch-themed cold process soap! The bright green base, red-and-white frosting, and heart detail make this the perfect holiday soap. It’s festive, easy to make, and smells just like sweet candied apples.

Now all that’s left to do is wait for it to cure… and then enjoy your beautifully mischievous Grinch bars!
